the task at hand

We few, and blah blah blah, The task at hand is tho bring story into flesh. make real the ideas the playwright has carefully crafted. Seems relatively easy. but, No. After reading and rereading and note taking and thinking and reading other material on the wide range of subjects, I now begin to realize that what Ann Bogart says is true. Art is violence, Art is decision making. it is choosing either this or that. there is no two ways about it. as a director or actor or set designer, what ever Art or life one chooses we have to pick, we have to make decisions and the moment the choice is made it creates violence, a shock and elimination of a certain amount of other possibilities. And this is good. What is wonderful is the full range of ideas that the cast and production creators bring to the table.
day one rehearsal - Read through. I think I wanted to change the people I picked for roles but I decided to stick with my instinctual choices. The one piece "while you were sleeping " is by far the most fascinating, there seems to be no story to hol d the thing together. It is together because of the mystery of it. it defies logic but maintains presence because of it, not like its absurd, no. It's because we are always left trying to figure out why? and who? I think it will be an interesting piece for all of us to wrap our heads around
